Periangular transmasseteric infraparotid approach in the treatment of condylar-base and low condylar‑neck fractures

AIM Mandibular condylar fractures account for 25 to 52 % of all mandibular fractures. Though current literature favors open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) condylar‑base low condylar‑neck fractures, extraoral approaches are usually considered be complicated by the risk facial nerve injury other possible complications. This study was undertaken demonstrate that periangular transmasseteric infraparotid surgical approach (TMIP) provides excellent access bony fragments with minimal complications such as parotid gland injury. PATIENTS In period from January 2010 December 2018, 81patients (96 fractures) underwent ORIF via approach. RESULTS The results this retrospective showed postoperative allowed precise anatomic repositioning in almost cases except two juvenile noticeable scars one case plate fracture. There were no transient or permanent palsies, salivary fistulae during a 12‑month follow‑up period. CONCLUSION is an effective safe allowing accurate reposition minimum (Tab. 1, Fig. 12, Ref. 21).
